Powerstation for motorhome & caravan

Powerstation for motorhome and caravan: off-grid power at any campsite

Camping means freedom. But even without a hook-up you want to use a cool box, lighting, phone and laptop. With a powerstation for your motorhome or caravan you bring your own portable power supply — wherever you stop.

A Mobisun powerstation delivers 230V, 12V and USB power straight away and recharges during the day with a solar panel. This lets you camp off-grid in your motorhome, caravan, folding camper, roof tent or glamping accommodation — without a generator and without a campsite hook-up.

Camping without a hook-up? Here’s how to always have power with you

Not every motorhome pitch or nature campsite has a 230V hook-up. And where power is available, you often pay per connection or the capacity is limited.

With a portable battery for your motorhome you have your own energy supply. Connect devices directly to the 230V socket, the 12V output or one of the USB ports. Use a Mobisun powerstation for, among other things:

  • a 12V cool box or small fridge
  • phones, tablets and cameras
  • laptops and USB-C equipment
  • LED lighting in and around the motorhome
  • a Wi-Fi router or Starlink Mini
  • a fan
  • a television or projector
  • e-bike and power tool batteries
  • audio equipment
  • small kitchen appliances, provided the power is within the specifications

You don’t bring fuel and there’s no engine noise or exhaust fumes during use. That makes a powerstation the silent generator for quiet campsites, nature reserves and glampings.

How long does a powerstation last in your motorhome?

The duration depends on:

  • the battery capacity of the powerstation
  • the consumption of the connected device
  • conversion loss
  • the number of devices you use at the same time
  • temperature and battery status
  • how much solar energy you generate during the day

Use this rule of thumb:

Battery capacity in Wh × 0.85 ÷ consumption in watts = estimated duration in hours

The factor 0.85 compensates for the energy loss when converting battery voltage to 230V.

Example calculation with the Pro Air 2.0 (±262Wh usable via 230V)

  • 10W LED lighting: about 26 hours
  • 25W Starlink Mini: about 10 hours
  • 40W television: about 6.5 hours
  • 75W device: about 3.5 hours

These are indications. A cool box or fridge usually does not run continuously at full power: because the compressor switches on and off, the actual duration is often longer.

Off-grid camping with a solar panel for motorhome or caravan

A powerstation contains a limited energy supply. With a solar panel for your motorhome, you replenish that supply every day.

The Mobisun Pro series is combined with portable panels of 60W or 100W. The folding 300W panels are intended for the Portable Solar Generator.

This is how you get the highest yield from your solar panel at the campsite:

  1. Place the panel outside and fully unfolded.
  2. Aim it as directly as possible at the sun.
  3. Avoid shade from trees, the motorhome or other objects.
  4. Adjust the direction and tilt angle during the day.
  5. Keep cables, plugs and ventilation openings clear.
  6. Only place portable panels when the vehicle is stationary.
  7. Store the panels before driving off.

The actual yield depends on cloud cover, season, temperature, positioning and the number of effective sun hours.

Smart power management at the campsite

🔌

Use 12V or USB where possible

Converting to 230V loses energy. Connect devices via USB-C or 12V where possible.
❄️

Pre-cool your cool box

Cool at home or via the campsite hook-up before departure. A cold appliance uses less.
♨️

Mind large consumers

Kettle, hob and air conditioning demand a lot. Check whether this fits within the specifications.
☀️

Charge by day, consume in the evening

Use sun hours to recharge. Keep enough capacity for the night.
🧪

Test your setup in advance

Connect your devices at home and measure how long they last. You'll know exactly what you need.

Safe use in motorhome and caravan

Connect devices directly to the outputs of the powerstation. That is the simplest and safest way.

Connecting to the full installation or CEE input? Have the installation, earthing and RCD checked in advance.

Never let shore power and a powerstation feed the same installation at the same time. Do not use homemade cables.

Also take the IP classification into account:

  • Pro Air and Pro Classic: IP54, protected against dust and splashing water
  • Pro Air 2.0: IP67, fully dust- and waterproof
  • keep adapters, open connections and plug connections dry
  • do not cover the powerstation and keep ventilation openings clear

Frequently asked questions about powerstations for motorhome and caravan

Which powerstation do I need for my motorhome?
For phones, laptop, lighting and short trips, the Pro Air (154Wh) is usually sufficient. Choose the Pro Classic (259Wh) for more battery capacity. The Pro Air 2.0 (308Wh, IP67) is suitable for more intensive use and trips where water and dust resistance are important. For a fridge, multiple devices or a long stay, the Portable Solar Generator 3000Wh is the most powerful solution.
Can I connect a fridge or cool box to a powerstation?
Yes, provided the normal and maximum starting power are within the specifications of the powerstation. An efficient 12V cool box usually consumes less than a household fridge. Always check the type plate or technical data of the appliance.
Can I use a kettle or coffee machine?
That depends on the power. Many kettles consume 1,500 to 2,400W and are therefore too heavy for the Mobisun Pro models. Some coffee machines do fit within the power of the Portable Solar Generator (1800W continuous). Check this before connecting.
Can I charge the powerstation while using devices?
Yes. The Mobisun Pro Air, Pro Classic and Pro Air 2.0 support pass-through charging: the powerstation charges while connected devices use energy.
Can I keep charging the battery with solar panels?
Yes. For the Pro series, use a compatible Mobisun solar panel of 60W or 100W. The folding 300W panels are intended for the Portable Solar Generator.
Does a solar panel also work with cloud cover?
Yes, a solar panel usually still generates energy with cloud cover, but considerably less than with direct sunlight. For full energy independence, take into account several days with lower yield.
Can I connect the entire motorhome to the powerstation?
In certain situations this is technically possible, but the electrical installation, earthing and protection of the motorhome must be suitable. Connecting individual devices directly is the simplest solution. Always have a connection to the full motorhome installation assessed by an expert.
Is a Mobisun powerstation suitable for a glamping?
Yes. Compact models can be used per tent, cabin or lodge. The Portable Solar Generator is suitable for central facilities or larger energy needs. For multiple accommodations, Mobisun creates a custom project proposal.
