Why home backup power is becoming essential

During a prolonged power outage, daily essentials fail quickly. Governments recommend households be prepared to be self-sufficient for at least the first 72 hours of an emergency. A Mobisun powerstation goes beyond a power bank — it can power multiple devices for an extended period.

Compare Mobisun backup power solutions

Always check both the continuous wattage and the surge wattage of each device.

⚠️ Note: appliances with a compressor, pump, heating element or motor can temporarily draw much more power at startup.

How long does a powerstation provide backup power?

Usable battery capacity in Wh ÷ device wattage = runtime in hours. Expect about 85% of the nominal capacity in practice.

Example with the Mobisun Pro Air 2.0 (~262Wh usable):

📶
Wi-Fi router (5W)
💡
LED lighting (10W)
📺
Television (40W)
🛰️
Starlink Mini (25W)

These are estimates. Actual runtime depends on consumption, startup surge, temperature, battery state, cable losses and simultaneous use of other devices.

Stay independent longer with a solar panel

During a prolonged outage, a solar panel can significantly extend your runtime. During the day you recharge the battery.

🌿
The 60W and 100W panels fit the Mobisun Pro series
The 300W panels pair with the PSG and PSG1800 bundle

How to build a practical backup power plan

Seven steps toward robust preparation for a power outage.

Determine what's truly essential

List devices that must keep working: communication, lighting, information, medical or cooling equipment.

Note the wattage

Check the type plate or adapter. Note the normal wattage and, where relevant, the surge or startup wattage.

Calculate required capacity

Multiply consumption in watts by the desired runtime hours. Add everything up and account for ~15% conversion loss.

Choose sufficient surge capacity

A battery may have enough capacity but still shut down if a device draws more power at startup than the inverter can deliver.

Add solar charging

A suitable solar panel lets you generate new energy during a prolonged outage.

Test your setup in advance

Don't wait until the power actually goes out. Connect your most important devices beforehand and verify real runtime.

Keep the battery charged

Check the charge status regularly and recharge periodically according to the manual's instructions.

Portable backup power or fixed home battery?

Both options have their own use case. Understand the difference before you choose.

🔋 Mobisun powerstation (portable)

  • Connect devices directly to the powerstation
  • No permanent installation or renovation needed
  • Ready to use, also outdoors
  • Rechargeable with solar and grid power

🏠 Fixed home battery

  • Permanently connected to the electrical installation
  • Often paired with solar panels
  • Does not automatically work when the grid fails (often requires separate backup)
  • Requires installation by a qualified installer
⚠️ Never connect a powerstation back to the home's electrical installation via a regular wall outlet. A fixed coupling or transfer switch may only be installed by a qualified installer.

Frequently asked questions about home backup power

Which powerstation do I need during a power outage?
For phone, router, laptop and lighting, the Mobisun Pro Air is usually sufficient. For more runtime and multiple devices, choose the Pro Classic or Pro Air 2.0. For a kitchen fridge, freezer or heavier equipment, the Portable Solar Generator 3000Wh is the most suitable solution.
Can I connect my fridge to a Mobisun?
A small compressor coolbox can often be connected to the Pro Air, Pro Classic or Pro Air 2.0. For a household fridge or freezer, the 3000Wh generator is recommended due to its higher continuous power (1800W) and 3600W surge. Always check the fridge's specifications.
Does a Mobisun automatically take over the power supply?
A standard Mobisun setup works as manual backup. When the grid fails, you connect the essential devices to the powerstation. Pass-through charging means the powerstation can be charged and used simultaneously, but this is not the same as a permanent automatic backup installation for the entire home.
Can I use the powerstation indoors?
Yes. A Mobisun powerstation uses no fuel and produces no exhaust fumes during use. Make sure there is enough free space around the device, do not cover it and follow the instructions in the manual.
Can I recharge with solar panels during a power outage?
Yes. With a suitable Mobisun solar panel, you can recharge the powerstation during the day. Output depends on the weather, the season and the placement of the panel.
How often should I check my backup power setup?
Check the charge status regularly and test at least a few times a year whether the most important devices work without issue. Recharge the powerstation according to the instructions for the specific battery type.
Is a powerstation enough to bridge 72 hours without power?
That depends on the chosen capacity, consumption and the ability to recharge via solar panels in the meantime. For communication and lighting, a compact system can last a long time. For a fridge, freezer or multiple devices, significantly more capacity is needed. Therefore, use only essential devices and prepare an energy plan in advance.

Prepare for a power outage today

A solid backup power setup gives peace of mind. You stay reachable, keep your lights on and can keep using essential equipment — from a compact personal emergency kit to a complete 3000Wh solar generator.
